Matching Funds

By God's providence, Indiana Yearly Meeting has agreed to match whatever Farmland Friends Church can set aside for James and I, up to $37,000. These funds will help us get the ball rolling on the Branches @ Escondido church plant. This is a huge answer to prayer and I can't begin to tell you how excited we are to have the opportunity to receive some financial assistance.

If you are interested in making a tax deductible gift to the Branches Community Church and assisting our families, please get in touch with me in one of the following ways:

You can leave your name and number by clicking the link above and placing a phone call to me. I will return your call A.S.AP, or you can email me at changeisgood4u at gmail.com

This is a fantastic blessing and we are thankful that FFC leadership is assisting us in this way, and we are prayerful that many others will take part in helping us achieve the goal of changing lives in Escondido.

Back from Jamaica

Last week I had the privilege of traveling to Jamaica and working with a great team of folks to build Daphne a home. Daphne had waited patiently for four years to receive her home. It didn't matter that there wasn't any electricity, running water, or even furniture; she was just so thankful to have a roof over her head. Here is a picture of Daphne joyfully opening the door to her new home.

Get Out of the Boat

"But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid. "Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water." "Come," he said." Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!" Matthew 14:27-30

To be a disciple is to be a learner/student; it is to choose to grow in Christ. Growth means getting out of the boat. Every time you take a risky step of faith there is the potential for fear. Every time you get out of the boat, every time you face a new challenge, a challenge way bigger than your own resources could meet, you may just experience fear.

In a sense, discipleship is always a choice between comfort and fear. That's not good news for many of us because we’re so easily driven toward comfort. It's easy to sit in the boat and play it safe. But as John Ortberg says, "If you want to walk on water, you've got to get out of the boat."
