Still There

On June 9th I posted a picture of this item at the end of our road. It is still there, although now it is beat up a little bit more. I wonder if it will still be there at the end of September or maybe October; would anyone like to guess how long it will remain at then end of our road (I know I'm not planning on touching it!)

Panera Elementary

Shelby was able to get a little homeschooling done while we enjoyed breakfast at Panera yesterday morning. My food was never that good when I was at school (I'm having flashbacks of our soybean burgers - side note, I found a whole unprocessed soybean in my burger mmmm yummy.). Here is a picture of Tammy helping Shelby on the computer...

"The Shack" Review

I just completed reading The Shack. I have heard, and read, mixed reviews on this book. There are some things I would have liked clarified or emphasized theologically; however, I really enjoyed this book. I can overlook some of the minor issues that I have with the book for a couple of reasons: #1 It is a work of fiction #2 "The Shack" is not the Bible, and as such it is a fallible work.

Here are some reasons why I liked the book: #1 I believe that a large number of people who are curious about who God is may begin a relationship with Him through His Son Jesus Christ as a result of reading The Shack. #2 It answers some of the questions I get constantly about why God would allow bad things to happen to good people. #3 It made me long for heaven.

If you get a chance, I would encourage you to read the book. Perhaps you've already read the book, what was your impression of it?

Confessions

This Sunday we begin a new series called "Confessions". We are going to tackle some pretty heavy topics over the next four weeks: lying, addictions, sexual sin, and shame. My prayer is that as a result of hearing the truth spoken that many people will find freedom in Christ. Would you, right now, pray that lives will be forever changed at FFC. I am optimistic that we will see whole generations impacted because individuals will find their way out of bondage.

Warning: Educational Post

I am not an expert on this topic (or even as informed as I should be) but I agree with this statement, "the earth is not overpopulated". Here are a couple of links to check out regarding the myth that the earth is overpopulated; check it out HERE and HERE.

We don't have too many people; we have too much government and too much greed. There are starving people in this world as a result of corrupt governments and those who are unwilling to share. We have more than enough food and more than enough land on the earth to take care of even more people; too often however, food and land is used as leverage to control people.

There are locations (cities) that are densely populated but that doesn't mean that the earth is overpopulated, it means some people need to move - I've got land for sale right next to me in fact. :-) If people living in cities don't like being around so many other people then they can move to Indiana which is loosing population or even to states like North or South Dakota. Abortion and population control are not the answer to poverty, starvation, or over crowding.

My Marriage Stinks pt. 7

We concluded our "My Marriage Stinks!" sermon series last Sunday by talking about children as it relates to our marriages. In our families our priorities should look like this: #1 God, #2 Our Spouse, #3 Our Children. Kids were never meant to take the place of your spouse and they make terrible gods!

In our culture what often happens is, the child is born and the dad will immerse himself in a career and the mom will immerse herself in the kids, and slowly the husband and wife grow apart. As a result empty nesters have the second highest divorce rate in America, because when the kids leave the husband and wife don’t know each other anymore.

Often the complaint that I will hear from married men is that his wife pours all of her energy into the kids and has nothing left for him. The complaint that I hear from wives is that her husband pours all of his energy into his job and never spends time with the family. At that point there is a strain on the relationship which results in a home filled with strife and the entire family suffers.

The best thing that a husband can do for his kids is to love God first and then his wife; the best thing that a wife can do for her kids is to love God first and then her husband. It is not the best thing to revolve our lives around our children. When children see mom and dad loving one another it provides the kind of stability and home environment that every kid would want.

Verminator

Saturday I did a little exterminating at the church. Tammy and Shelby found a mouse at the church and needed me to come and save the day. So I put on my official mouse catching gear and banished the mouse from the church. Here is a picture of the official mouse chasing gear (plastic fire chief hat, plastic shovel and rake)...

3rd Annual Picnic And Baptism

Today was our 3rd annual church picnic and baptism. I've uploaded a video below...

FYI: we baptized 13 people.

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" Mat. 28:19

Crazy Cat Lady And Jesus

I cut some of this off in the picture but I think you can tell that this is the "Crazy Cat Lady" action figure. I particularly like the cat that is sitting on her shoulders and her frizzy looking hair. If you have been looking for the Crazy Cat Lady action figure you can find it at Borders at the Hamilton Town Center mall.

Right next to the Crazy Cat Lady was the "Jesus Action Figure"... I don't even think I will comment on this one...

Jamaica Mission Report pt. 6

Below is our team, from left to right: Joe Frazier, Amanda Childress, Marggy Hensley, *Arthur, Barry Stitt, myself.

*Arthur is a Jamaican who volunteers his time to build homes with CSI; he is a pentecostal preacher and has a great heart. This dude is strong by the way. He carried a toolbox that must have weighed over 100 pounds on his head up a long steep hill and it didn't even phase him; not bad for a 47 year old man!

This is just before I cut my finger off... (just kidding)

Home sweet home...
