Pastor's Short Course

Tomorrow several of the pastors from FFC and our families are heading up to Quaker Haven Camp for "Pastor's Short Course". Short Course gives pastors an opportunity to listen to a speaker, attend some workshops, relax a little bit, and eat tons of food.

I'm really looking forward to this week because our speaker will be the pastor from my "home church", Riverton Friends Church, Wes Davis. While I was in college I did my practicum with Pastor Wes and really enjoyed learning from him. It should be a good week of catching up with Wes and hearing about how God is blessing Riverton Friends.

Sunday Morning Quotes

Some quotes you may hear tomorrow in our church services:

"God wants less of us – He calls us to die to ourselves, to let Christ increase while we decrease. Ironically, as we become less concerned with ourselves, He gives us more – more influence, more life. "

"It’s not the extraordinary people who make a difference. It’s those of us who are ordinary, who commit to becoming everyday servants."

"What would happen if every one of us who follows Jesus – without external pressure… without someone cracking a whip or applying pressure… just as the Holy Spirit led and guided – were to offer our resources, our time, our spiritual gifts, our love for one another, our prayer, our devotion, out of the abundance of life and joy that we receive from Jesus?"

New Blog Links Added

I guess this is the week for adding blog links. Two new FFC Peeps have entered the blogosphere. If you haven't done so yet saunter over to Emily's blog and welcome her to the community; and then take a load off and have a seat on Milah Frosts back porch and say "hello".

You can find both of their links in the FFC Peeps category; which is now 22 strong. If anyone knows of any other FFC bloggers out there that I don't have links to yet be sure to let me know and I will get them added to the list.

I've been following Scott Hodge's blog for quite some time now and I don't think I've ever linked to him. I really enjoy reading Scott's blog; he is a fellow pastor that has transitioned his church and has some great perspective. He pastors a creative church called The Orchard, not too far from Chicago. You will find Scott's blog in the "link love" list.

The Sweetest Sound

There are some things that are just music to my ears. I love listening to a trickling brook, a crackling fire in the winter, sounds of crickets in the distance on a cool summer night, the joyous sounds of worshippers giving their all to God...

The other day after I got home from work Shelby said, "Daddy, would you like to hear my memory verse today?" I said, "I sure would sugar." She began in her soft 5 year old voice, "For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. Psalm 33:4" At that moment, I can honestly say, I don't know that I've ever heard a sweeter sound in all my life.
