Cleanliness Is Next To Insanity

Okay, I'm looking for a little interaction here; I'm trying to determine if I'm a little obsessive about the number of times I wash my hands in the day. I counted how many times I washed them and used hand sanitizer and I think I washed my hands approximately 20 times today. That is probably pretty standard for me.

Alright lets hear it - how many times a day do you wash your hands?

  1. Ok....being a nursing student or anybody else in the medical field...20 times a day is nothing! But lets face it PK....if it's outside of those areas...it's a little bit obsessive!!! Or as Eric likes to call some of my habits....OCD!

Happy handwashing.....but on a positive note at least I know your hands are clean :)

  2. I washed my hands twice today. That just happened when I was cooking. Is this a bad thing? You probably will never shake hands with me.

Don't your hands chap from so many washings?

Personaly, on average I only wash my hands when I know I really need to. Like when their visibly dirty and such. And before I cook of course.

  3. I don't think washing your hands 20 times a day is a bad thing. My guess is that 12-20 times a day is good. I don't know how often I was my hands. Probably 12-15 times a day. Since I do a lot of cooking I wash most frequently in the kitchen. I always wash after my workout at the gym. And of course before leaving the bathroom. I'm one of those people who does not like touching doors or shopping cart handles. I don't carry hand sanitizer but I do carry baby wipes and I use them.

  4. That seems like a lot to me...but then I don't count either. The main times would be after using the bathroom and before food (and sometimes after food, depending how messy that is...)

It could be 10 I guess...

  7. I've been counting the number of times I've washed my hands so far today (Tuesday 2/24/09) 5 Times by noon. That is more than 2 times as often as my cousin, Mike. Who, by the way, I will never shake his hand. A hug? Sure. Handshake? No. =)

  8. 20 times a day is not excessive, you are probably more aware of the nasty little critters that are waiting to get into your body and make you sick, i would much rather be around someone like that than those who rarely wash their hands, i am more concerned about them than you or i or kate or milah! Let's face it - washing hands means less tendency to being sick or passing on a nasty germ to some unsuspecting soul

  9. Kris,

You're a funny guy! Again, today, 2times I washed my hands.:)

    Rita,

I don't want to offend you. but maybe, just perhaps I took your comment the wrong way. Does this mean you don't want to hang with me. Your breaking my heart.:-(

I think Jesus put it this way when the people around Him made a big deal about some that weren't washing their hands. "It's not what you put in your mouth, it's what comes out of it that makes you unclean."

Atleast I know Jesus would still hang out with me. Also I remember reading such passages in the bible that clearly state that Jesus bore ALL my infirmities, sicknesses and diseases. And the bible says by Jesus stripes I am healed...Wooo..I feel like preachin now.

One more thing. WARNING Walmart shoppers. I wipe snot from my nose with my hands then continue pushing my cart. Sorry...<><

  10. Mike,

    Re: WalMart - Dude that's gross :-)

Just a quick plug since I know her well. Rita meant no disrespect and is one of the most non-judgmental Christ loving people I know. I think she was just coming from the "germy" side of things.

Comments are tough to tell sometimes because we can't hear the tone or get a sense for the person's heart. You would absolutely love meeting Rita and she would absolutely love meeting you... I don't think she will shake your hand... but you'd get along great! =)

Blessings - brother from another mother.

Thanks for the warning about the Wal-mart carts. I'm glad I don't shop at your Wal-Mart. Ha Ha :)

I think I will take Milah's advice and carry wipes with me to Wal-Mart.

  13. Vicki said-I agree with the Bible quotes but God also gave us a brain to figure out how to take care of ourselves. I am a hand washer and also carry little bottle of sanitizer in my purse and use it after pushing a cart or after hand-shaking time at church because I have ears to hear all the coughs. lol

  14. I must say this all got me thinking and the first thing I did today before leaving the house was wash my hands. I agree that sickness can overtake us when we don't take care of ourselves like we should. Honestly I'm not as gross as I make it sound. I do practice some personal hygiene. I swear. :-)

Rita, I am sorry, I re-read what I wrote and I did go a bit far didn't I. I don't know what came over me. And if we meet I don't expect you to shake my hand. :-)
