Strengths

A couple of years ago the staff and some of the leaders of the church read a book and answered an online questionnaire to discover our God given strengths. The questionnaire was developed by the Gallup Organization and developed from a book called “Now Discover Your Strengths”, by Marcus Buckingham and Donald Clifton. In the book, the authors cover 34 positive personality themes and the online questionnaire helps you pinpoint your top 5 strengths.

The premise is to build on your strengths rather than to focus on eliminating negative character traits. A very interesting thought considering that this weekend I’m preaching on positivity verses negativity in our lives. This evening I thought I’d post my strengths so that you can get an idea of what makes me tick.

Here are my top 5 signature/personality themes:

Harmony: People strong in the Harmony theme look for consensus. They don't enjoy conflict; rather, they seek areas of agreement.

Belief: People strong in the Belief theme have certain core values that are unchanging. Out of these values emerges a defined purpose for their life.

Responsibility: People strong in the Responsibility theme take psychological ownership of what they say they will do. They are committed to stable values such as honesty and loyalty.

Relator: People who are strong in the Relator theme enjoy close relationships with others. They find deep satisfaction in working hard with friends to achieve a goal.

Achiever: People strong in the Achiever theme have a great deal of stamina and work hard. They take great satisfaction from being busy and productive.
