Criticism

I read something by Erwin McManus the other day that stuck with me, in his book “Stand Against the Wind” he writes, “When we are in love with ourselves, we are prone to listen only to what we want to hear. We become more than willing to trade insight for affirmation. We want to feel good about ourselves more than we want ourselves to become good.”

In order to become a better leader, and just a better person in general, it is necessary to be realistic about our short-comings and to hear others out when they provide constructive criticism. As I mature I find that I am able to handle criticism much better than I used to.

Proverbs 18:2, “A fool finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his own opinions.”
