Leadership, as well as life, is not necessarily a marathon it is more a series of sprints followed by rests, followed by more sprinting and hopefully some rest. Looking at my calendar for the next several months, it appears that I will be sprinting for a while. July, August, and September is filled with weddings, our stewardship campaign, conferences, and all of the customary surprises of ministry i.e. deaths, conflict, and administrative issues. Hopefully once October comes I will be able to catch my breath. One thing is for sure, I’ll either pause or pass out.

I prefer the marathon or, better yet, half-marathon, but sprinting the right distance can get you in shape for those. Aside from actual running, I understand your schedule of a "series of sprints." In teaching we go through much the same thing with lull/rest periods followed by intense/busy episodes that allow little rest/recovery. The nice thing about this is that you'll know the where and why of your next several months. (Were you complaining in this post?:) ) Hopefully you'll get to pause but, on the bright side, if you pass out you'll get some rest and tlc! Enjoy your sprints!
ReplyDeleteTodd,
ReplyDeleteI sure wanted to complain yesterday - but I held my tongue... most of the time ;)
