Here is a closer shot so that you can read it a little better...

"Welcome to Parker City... birthplace of Hillard Porter... www.beautifulparkercity.com"
Just a couple things about this billboard:
1. If anyone knows who Hillard Porter is; could you let me know. Thanks.
2. Would you like to see where http://www.beautifulparkercity.com/ takes you? Just click the link... as of today (Sunday June 22, 2008) it takes you... nowhere. [UPDATE July 21, 2008 - Parker City ("P-Town") has a website under construction... good for them - we will see what the final product looks like eventually.]
If you are going to spend good money on a billboard make sure your website works before you put the billboard up. I'd really like to see Parker City have a website. It would be nice if it were similar to this town's website.
Hillard Porter was the butcher at the Parker grocery for years. He was loved by all and always had a smile for everyone.
ReplyDeleteYes, the butcher at the grocery store and rather flamboyant for Parker City. Hillard never married, wore lots of gold and was a pretty interesting fellow. I think he lived to be about 90 or 100! He and Ned Harness the owner of the grocery were rather ornery characters, full of high jinks and and always ready for a good laugh.
ReplyDeleteSeems that you found out who Hillard Porter was. Saw the billboard as we were arriving home yesterday from New Orleans. Thought it was very impressive. Glad to see that the website address takes you to an exotic website. NOT! ;-) Thanks for the pics and Happy Birthday PK!
ReplyDelete"P-Town Down!" (Have you or your daughter patented that phrase yet? lol)
another fun fact from the archive...
ReplyDeleteDid you know that the Randolph County slogan is, "Randolph County, the funshine coast?" A friend did his urban planning internship with Randolph Co and uncovered that fact. We've been looking for the coast ever since.
Wow; "Randolph County, the funshine coast"!? That is blogging gold right there. Oh my goodness. If only you could see me shaking my head in disbelief...
ReplyDeleteand now the laughter kicks in...
my sides hurt.
