I just completed reading The Shack. I have heard, and read, mixed reviews on this book. There are some things I would have liked clarified or emphasized theologically; however, I really enjoyed this book. I can overlook some of the minor issues that I have with the book for a couple of reasons: #1 It is a work of fiction #2 "The Shack" is not the Bible, and as such it is a fallible work.
Here are some reasons why I liked the book: #1 I believe that a large number of people who are curious about who God is may begin a relationship with Him through His Son Jesus Christ as a result of reading The Shack. #2 It answers some of the questions I get constantly about why God would allow bad things to happen to good people. #3 It made me long for heaven.
If you get a chance, I would encourage you to read the book. Perhaps you've already read the book, what was your impression of it?

I've also read the book. I enjoyed it. It was definitely thought provoking and full of surprises. I thought about hosting a book review to get other peoples opinions. I've shared this book with three friends and they shared the same sentiments. I'm interested in hearing what others have to say.
ReplyDeleteI just finished the book a couple weeks ago. I really really liked it. I loved all the visuals--the way the author attached "real" things to abstract ideas.
ReplyDeleteKris, I agree. The thing that makes a difference is the fact that it's a fantasy. But here in Dallas, in theology central, it's a big deal, and criticized soundly for it's bad theology. I think the book did hit our two passions as people- our greatest fear and our greatest desire. our fear- losing a child, and our desire- to talk to God and ask our questions. on those two points it gave everyone I know that has read it a new passion to pursue God. If that's all it does I'm with you....read it! thanks for the comment.
ReplyDeleteI read the book "The Shack" and was very uncomfortable with it. I love the Lord and trust Holy Spirit to give me discernment. Among other things, this book is a violation of the second commandment "Thou shalt have no other gods before Me." I put the book in the trash for the garbage truck to pick up on Wednesday.
