Why I Go To Church part 2 of 6

I'm highlighting reasons that motivate some people to go to church; here are some more reasons...

Because that is where my boyfriend/girlfriend goes. I’ve seen people come to church after not attending church for years and years and now all of a sudden they are back; but the whole reason they are back is so that they can sit next to their “lovey”. When the relationship ends, oddly I never see that person in church or any other church again.

To find someone to date. Church is a great place to meet like-minded people but it is not E-Harmony.com. Nothing wrong with meeting potential people to date at church – but is this really the reason the church exists?

I have a ministry there/ I’m on a committee. I’ve seen folks with excellent attendance at church as long as they held a position of authority or were plugged into a particular ministry they wanted to do. As soon as their term was up or another person began rotating into that particular ministry I rarely see them again.

They need me at that church. These are the folks who like to be in control. They will hold a position of influence and as long as they have some form of say/control on decisions they will be a part of the church. If they lose any power then they are gone. Their motivation to be at church is to be the big dog, to be the big fish in a small pond, to be recognized, etc.

More to come...
