Ok I will be the odd one on this post. I have seen 24. We borrowed the first 4 seasons of it from a friend and it was addictive. Around season 4 though you just kind of think "Really? How many times can this one person be in danger, kill her off already" I could never watch it while it was on the suspense was too much. With DVD's you don't have to wait a whole week to see what happens next. I do like that how ever long the com. breaks are, it takes that time out of the count down. It's pretty neat. I have never see LOST.
Hey Kris - I've been enjoying your blog and all the FFC ones since coming across Nate's in December :-) I love the blogging community you guys have.
Anyway, TV...this will be long...
Right at the moment, being summer, there's nothing on TV except sports...however, when the season starts again in a few weeks, the most popular shows are mainly from here, including: "Home & Away" - a horrible evening soap now in its 22nd year "Neighbours" - ditto, just 4 yrs longer "Packed To The Rafters" - the new local hit from last season, one of those comedic drama type things.
I haven't seen the last one, and haven't seen the others for at least 10 years or more...
The most watched US show is "Two & A Half Men"...which I caught 10 minutes of once and won't be doing so again.
We do get most of the big US shows down here - the cultures translate pretty easily, so we also get lots of UK shows as well.
As I've been typing I've been trying to work out what I do actually watch...!
"Top Gear UK" - hilarious, mainly as no-one pretends that this show has anything to do with cars "Law & Order : Criminal Intent" - maybe once a month "The Simpsons" - not as often as I'd like to "Family Guy" - probably more often than I should "RockWiz" - a v.low budget music quiz show with minor Australian celebrities and the general public. Lots of fun. Filmed in a pub in Melbourne.
I love some of our local satire, so my favourite shows will mean nothing to you guys: "Frontline" - mid 90s, about the inner workings of a nightly current affairs show. "The Hollowmen" - 2008, federal politics should always be this much fun "Summer Heights High" - 2007, way too much bad language, but a very accurate and hilarious look at Australian high school life. "The Games" - 1999, about the preparation for Sydney 2000 Olympics.
That's more than enough to bore you with - time for sushi! Bless you guys, and I'm praying for your Jamaican mission trip. Very jealous, in a Godly-way. Of course.
Always glad to bring a bit of alien culture - even if it is of the televisual variety. Much more into the live version when I can, being a Sydney Opera House junkie. :-)
David, Its great to have you in our little bloging community. My brother lived in OZ for 2 years while attending Hillsong College and I don't think he ever mentioned anything about TV down there, I'll have to ask him.
24?
ReplyDeleteNope....never heard of it.
I've heard great things about it, but I've never watched any 24.
ReplyDeleteHeard of it, but never watched it.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I saw an advertisement about it. Never seen it before though. It looks like your not the only one.:)
ReplyDeleteI know Keifer Sutherland plays Jack Bauer in it...does that count? Never watched it, though.
ReplyDeleteYou are not alone brother!
ReplyDeleteI confess as well to have never seen one single episode of "24"
I make a vow now to never attempt to watch one either. <><
No i have never seen one episode either. heard people talk about it at the beauty shop thouth.
ReplyDeleteI can joint the list too.
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen "Lost" either
But...does it count since I really don't watch TV all that much?
And that I'm in Australia and we have our own shows to clog the airwaves as well? Too much choice !
David,
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and commenting -- all the way from Australia =)
If you have time to comment back; what shows are popular right now in Australia? Are there any from the U.S. that you watch on Australian TV?
"24"? I can honestly say that I have never seen 1 episode nor do I even know what the show is about. Maybe I should get out of this hole I'm in. LOLOL

David,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing some of the shows from down under - I never knew my blog could be a cultural experience for me =)
Enjoy your sushi, and thanks for praying for our mission trip!
Dave, from down under,
ReplyDeleteenjoyed hearing about your TV culture.
