One Month To Live

I've been working on the new message series, "Carpe Diem"; which of course loosely means, "seize the day". I think we become keenly aware of how quickly time passes the older we get. This year marks my 20 year high school class reunion, and I think to myself, "Stink! I've gotten old - quick!" If we are not careful, life can pass us by without truly seizing the moments to glorify God and to enjoy the day we have been given.

It is sad, but true, some people never really start living until they realize that they are close to dying. That raises a question in my mind that I thought I'd throw out there this evening; I'd love to know your response to this question...

What would you do if you knew you only had one month to live?...

  1. If I only had 1 month to live I'd: quit my job, sell all my useless possessions, take my wife to Paris, France, go hiking & camping with my sons, take the family on a Disney cruise, write a letter to my wife and letters to each of my sons for them to open when they're 18, try to bless as many people as I could while spending as much time with my family as possible, tell my parents that I love them & thank them for everything they've done for me, make sure my will is up-to-date, take the family out west to see some of the amazing sights (ie. Grand Canyon, Ole Faithful, Pikes Peak, Death Valley), maybe drive the entire Route 66 from Chicago to L.A., not sleep much b/c that would be a total waste of time, try to teach my sons everything I'd hoped to teach them as they grew. - I'm sure there are other things, like sky diving or mountain climbing. I've never actually made a "bucket list." I think this is a start, however.

  2. Todd,

That would be one busy month. You've given this some thought! Thank you for sharing.

  3. I'd like to say that I would be as ambitious as Irunman...but I don't think I would be. However - I would do the letter to my girls for them to open when they were older. Since experiencing something close to this with my Dad passing away June 08, one thing I know I would definately do is spend every moment I could with my girls. There would be no more work or meetings getting in the way - every day would be about them.

  4. Angel,

Having a death in the family recently puts a lot of things in perspective.

    Thanks for the response.
