Negativity

In a couple of weeks I’m going to begin a new series and the first topic will be “complaining”. Complaining is a personal struggle of mine. Here are some initial random thoughts on negativity: there are 2 choices in every situation negativity or positivity. Left on our own most people naturally drift toward negativity. Negative people will also have other traits attached to them; they may be lazy, liars, and live in the past.

I listened to a sermon by Ed Young today and he said, “Positivity is a God driven outlook that gives us a God ordained outcome.” When we follow Jesus and we have our eyes on Him our outlook can determine our destiny.

What are some of your thoughts on negativity/complaining? Are you like me and struggle with the drift towards negativity? Any thoughts, comments, or quotes that might be beneficial for the sermon in a couple of weeks?

  1. Some of the WLJWJ girls have made a committment to improve their thinking, talking and behavior. We are following the example of Pastor Will Bowen and his "Complaint-free America" campaign. The purple bracelets you see us wearing are an outward reminder of the change that is taking place within. The challenge is to stop complaining, criticizing, gossiping and using sarcasm. The choice is ours but the journey to success is hand in hand with the Holy Spirit. When we are reminded by the Spirit we move the bracelet from one wrist to the other. The goal is to keep the bracelet on the same wrist for 21 days. Please pray for us as we desire to talk, act and think like our Beloved Jesus Christ. We have all been shocked yet lovingly reminded of the work ahead. Thank you for your prayers and encouragement.

  2. "I'm not negative, I'm just realistic!"

I've said that to myself a lot in my life, but the truth is I can be a hyper-critical perfectionist/pessimist at times. Like anything else, it comes and goes, but there are definitely times when I need to be scolded for my pessimism. I'm looking forward to the series.

  3. It is amazing how God will show you how you are complaining, griping, criticizing, etc. when you don't even realize it. The first day we had our bracelets I have to say my arms got a little tired from going back and forth - but God clearly showed me areas I needed to work on.

  4. Tracy, Bryan, and Lisa,

Great comments. I'll keep my eyes open for the purple bracelets on the Weight Loss Journey with Jesus ladies.
