Some phrases or thoughts really stick with me during the week and I know that I need to pass that thought along to the congregation on the weekend. This week the phrase was, "We want to be blessed by the church but we don't want to be a blessing to the church".
Too often we are not willing to use our time, talents, or treasures to bless the church; but we sure want the blessings that the church can offer us. When I find that unwillingness creeping its way into my life that's the moment I have to pray; "God I'm not willing; would you make me willing?" I've got to fight past the desire to be selfish and pray that God would give me the willingness to be generous and to share.
1 Timothy 6:17-19, "Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life."
