Pastoral Assembly Line

Being a pastor is a very unique career. I realize it's more than a career, it's a calling by God, but there are the tasks that need to get done - that's the 'job' part of this gig. There's always an endless list of: sermons to write, sermons to plan for in the future, studying to be done, dreaming for the future, administration, and personal contacts to be made. Once you get one of these crossed off the list it's time to start right back in on the same task again. It's almost like working an assembly line that never quits. If fact, if I had no self-control I could find myself doing these things until I drop and if I had no drive I could very easily let all of these tasks drop.

It's very rare that I have the feeling that I got a lot accomplished in one day. However, today after work Tammy asked me if I got much done, and for once I told her "Yes". I think part of the reason I felt so productive today was the fact that I got 1.5 sermons done and several other things crossed off of my "to do" list. I feel like I've gained just a little bit of ground on my list of tasks. I'm sure this feeling will be short lived though.
