It Happened Again!

I was sitting in my office late this morning working on this week's sermon about miracles and answered prayer when our secretary, Jill, came in and asked if I had time to meet with someone who had stopped by the church. I said, "Sure", reluctantly, because I was on a roll with my sermon on answered prayer and I really didn't want to stop.

A woman I had never meet before came into the office and began to tell me that she needed God in her life (I'm thinking 'are you kidding me?' God you did it again, and you did it right in the middle of my sermon on answered prayer.) She went on to mention that she had some practical needs and needed some help with a little food and gas for the car. But God had recently gotten her attention because within the last 3 weeks a close relative had died and then 2 weeks ago her 17 year old daughter was killed in a car crash up in Chicago. I dug for more details in order to get a sense for whether or not she was telling the truth and I fully believe that she was telling me the truth.

I told the woman that I would be happy to talk to her about her spiritual needs and then she would need to talk to Pastor Jeff about the practical needs since he handles those types of needs for the church. So we proceeded to talk to her about her spiritual condition and I invited her to pray to receive Christ. We prayed together and she gave her life to the Lord!! Praise God.

Once we got done praying her countenance was noticeably different; I welcomed her to the family, told her I was proud of her and then said, "OK let's talk to Pastor Jeff about some of those practical needs you have." I love what she said, "Oh, I completely forgot about those things." She was so excited about her new found connection with God that the rest of those things became far less pressing.

Isn't that what should happen for all of us who call ourselves Christians?

  1. Great! Just reading this makes me excited for this woman's future! Her response about her worldly needs was awesome and made me realize I need to evaluate my own thinking. Too often I forget about God, focusing on other things, when this should be reveresed! Thanks for sharing this!
