Where Were You?

When the twin towers were struck I was at home and had just turned on the television when I saw the second plane hit the tower. I remember calling Tammy who was working at the Indiana Yearly Meeting office in Muncie and telling here what was happening since she didn't have a television. I can remember the shock and emotions that I felt that morning.

Where were you?

  1. I was caseing mail at Falmouth Post Office. A customer came in and said a plane flew into one of the Twin Towers. I knew instantly in my heart we were under attack. I listened to the events unfold on the radio all day as I delivered mail. I had the opportunity to see a TV on my lunch break at a little grocery store on my route but I chose not to look. I could'nt.
A few weeks later I had to start wearing masks and gloves at work because Antrax was in the mail, believed to be another terrorist weapon. That scared me to death.
I will never forget the sky that day, that shade of blue is etched into my mind. I just kept praying and looking up wondering what's next.

  2. I was getting ready for class at Purdue. My roommate and I just sat in front of the TV in shock. Needless to say, class wasn't too productive that day.

  5. I took the day off work and was at home with Tyson when mom called and told me to turn the tv to a news channel. It was so unreal. Tammy and I went to get a car that day, the green Sable which we still have, and I remember looking up at the sky and not seeing any planes in the air. We sat at Bill McCoy Ford watching alot of it on tv. It was just a weird feeling all day.

  6. I was skipping beauty school and attempting to sleep in, my mom woke me so I sat up on my futon in the middle of our empty living room (we were in the process of moving out of that house and into my mom's house she lives in now) and watching moments before the 2nd plane hit on my 13" color television. My brother Allen was in the military then so I was frantically trying to get ahold of him but to no avail because all phone lines were down. I worked at Pak-A-Sak/Subway in Winchester and I tried to call in with the lame excuse that I didn't have any clean black work pants and my boss Lois said "I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU WEAR JUST GET IN HERE NOW!" I went to work in jeans and the cars were lined up the entire 32! Hours after hours of people buying gas until we ran out. We didn't hear from my brother until the next day. It was horrible

  7. A week before, one of our faculty had lost her son. Sept 11, 2001 was her first day back after the funeral. A colleague and I heard about what was going on and went to the nearest classroom with a TV. She joined us there, just in time to see the second tower fall. As we were standing there in shock, she grabbed our hands and said, “We’ve got to pray.” I really admire that after everything she was going through and seeing, she knew what to do.

  8. I was running late for class at BSU. I got there, and instead of notes on the projector screen it was the news. "Class" lasted about 3 hours that day with no complaints.

I then had a hair appointment that I couldn't cancel because I would have to pay anyways. They didn't close, and I had to walk 13 blocks because the shuttle bus wasn't running.

We then had a candle light vigil right accross from my dorm at the stadium. It was only a month after school had started. I was scared and away from home. The moment was kind of bittersweet to me. Nobody knew each other, but that didn't stop us from praying together and holding one another.

  9. I was at my house on 54th. st. in Marion, In. going into work late that day. Turned the TV on as plan 2 went through the second tower. Called Kris, ph was busy. called Yvette, she was watching TV also. I asked her if this is real, she said it is really happening. I was so confused; how could this be, was it an american doing this or some other country? I was terrified, and said to Yvette, this can't happen, it can't be real, how could this be?
The OK bombing feelings were still so close to the surfuce for me. I had no idea that I would react like this. I was crying and went to work crying. Called Yvette at work and cried some more. Our phycologist at work stayed with me for a little while.
I have not seen the movie about 911 either. This year it still seems like just yesterday.
