Why I Go To Church part 6 of 6

I will conclude this series of posts with some of the final reasons that motivate me to attend a local church...

Discipleship. I’m motivated to go to church because I have a desire to learn more about God. As the pastor of a church, I’m generally the one drawing attention to truth within God’s Word and in that process I continually learn more about who God is and what He wants for my life. Spiritual growth is a process that we never complete and the church is equipped with teachers to help train and equip.

Ministry. We are better together. The church is a fantastic vehicle to launch practical ministry that will benefit not only those within the church but those outside the church as well. I get to use the spiritual gifts that God has placed within me and the church is the place where this naturally occurs.

Evangelism. Something unique happens when the Body of Christ gets together; while each of us is a part of that body, when we gather, the body as a whole stands as a witness to those who have not stepped across the line of faith yet. The environment of worship, fellowship, discipleship, and ministry then becomes a catalyst to point people to the living God. In our particular culture the evangelical church has been commonly the place where people go to learn more about Christianity and test the waters of faith before they make a decision.

I don’t go to church to earn brownie points, to manipulate God, or out of tradition; I go because I have God’s heart beating within me and His heart beats for the Church He loves, and I want to be as close as I can to His beloved Bride. Why do you go to church?

  1. I grew up in this community but have been away for 12 years. This summer my family moved to Farmland. We began attending FFC. I have been to several churches but have found this one to be "comfortable". For the first time in my life I look forward to going to church on Sunday (I am 30). I find myself wanting to know more. I know God is working on me and I am almost at a place in my heart to trust Him completly. I am so thankful for the "worship" and "fellowship" at FFC that has allowed me to get this far.

  2. Mandy,

It is great having you at FFC. Our goal is to reach those who have never gone to church or who have given up on church. So when I hear stories like yours it really blesses me!! Thanks for sharing this. I will be praying that you can take that next step of trusting God completely soon. See you at church.
