More Thoughts on the Big Game

Wow! 3 posts in one day – that may be a new record for me.

Anytime you have the LA Times calling Farmland Friends Church you know a story has hit the news hard. And you know why this is news don’t you? Because churches have been having super bo-l parties for years and now the NFL has chosen to single out one particular church in Indianapolis! Of all places (Indy) and of all the times (it’s not like the Colts do this regularly:-).

Just type “superbowl party church” into google and see how many churches have planned superb-wl parties at their churches. This is nothing new churches have been doing this for years. I don’t think many of them knew/know that the NFL frowns upon it either. I’d still like it if someone could direct me to the legalese that the NFL is refereeing to in their letter to Pastor Newland at Fall Creek Baptist Church.

We (FFC) had no idea that legally we are not allowed to show the big game on our big screen. But once you have knowledge of something that then makes you responsible for that knowledge. That is why, in good conscience and as representatives of Christ, we could not break the law.

Here are just some of the 1,590,000 links from the google search I mentioned earlier…

Evidently someone in Christendom has written a manual on how to throw a church super b-wl party. http://www.floridabaptistwitness.com/3720.article
