Countdown To Gunslingers

This is it - today we begin our new sermon series... "Gunslingers"

By the way - Happy Mother's Day! What says "Mother's Day" better than cowboy hats, cowboy boots, and a great big gun? ;-)

  1. I think you owe all your bloggers a complete picture of your "git up" today! For those who don't go to FFC or get to watch live... I'd say it is only fair! :) Oh, by the way, I was watching live and well... doesn't it feel great to look "country"??? I think it's a GREAT style. :)

  2. PS... thanks for a great mothers day gift of seeing my husband in cow boy boots this morning! It was probably the first and the last, but it was a great mothers day present! :)

  3. THATS what I should have gotten mom. Crap, all I got her was a bag of biscuits and bowl of baked beans.

I should have thought of the gun!

  4. I notice you start new series on holidays. Easter- the temptation series, and now mother's day- the gunslinger series. Is there a method to your madness or is it totally accidental? Since I can't be there to hear you may I ask the "big picture" of the series? Is there a place where I can listen? thanks,

  5. Mike,

It is no coincidence that I begin series at the start of a holiday. I have never understood why we would end a series on the day that most people finally decide to make it back to church (Easter, Christmas, Mother's Day). I figure I'd rather catch them on the front end then on the back end. That way there may be more incintive to come back and find out how the series plays out.

Here is how I've tried to sum up this series: "The Christian is fueled by a passion and guided by a mission that is larger than themselves. That passion is the glory of God and the mission is to make His name famous among the nations. The Christian life should be the most adventerous and passionate life of all."

Last Sunday the theme was "dying to self", next week we will talk about "risk", and then on the third week I will address "mission".

John Piper's, "Don't Waste Your Life" and Erwin McManus', "The Barbarian Way" play a large part in inspiring the theme of this series.

You can catch the audio of the sermons at www.farmlandfriends.org and click on "sermon archive".

I'm super excited about what God is doing in our congregation right now. God has been stretching me and I think He is doing that with many others in our church family.
